Google has updated the help documentation for Structured Data Carousels (Beta) to clarify where your markups should go on overview pages that link to other detail pages. Google has also added feature availability of these new structured data carousels (beta).

The Google Structured Data Carousels (Beta) are several weeks oldit was introduced when Google started releasing DMA changes in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).

Overview pages. Googling said “the formatting must be on the overview page and you do not need to add formatting to the detail pages to qualify for this feature.” Google added this new section:

Choose one overview page that contains some information about each entity in the list. For example, a category page showing the ‘Top Hotels in Paris’, with links to specific detail pages on your site for more information about each hotel. If necessary, you can mix and match different types of entities (e.g. hotels and restaurants) for your scenario. For example, if you have a “Things to do in Switzerland” article that lists both local events and local businesses.

Add the required properties. Based on the format you’re using, see where you can insert structured data on the page.

Google wrote: “This feature is currently only available in European Economic Area (EEA) countries, on both desktop and mobile devices. It is available for questions about travel, local travel and shopping. For retail questions, it will first be tested in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Great Britain.”

Google also wrote: “This feature is in beta and you may encounter changes to requirements or guidelines as we develop this feature. If your company is based in the EEA or serves users in the EEA and you would like to learn more and express interest in these new experiences, you can start by complete the applicable form (for questions about flights, use the interest form for questions about flights).”

Why we care. If you are located in European regions, these are changes you should be aware of. You may want to implement these new beta carousel features as needed and then send the interest forms to Google to sign up for the program.

These carousels can lead to more clicks from Google Search to your site.
